I would make sure that this person was a fair man with the ability to see both sides and communicate effectively without losing his bearing.

This person must be able to understand that false accusations will happen & that does not mean he resorts to childish games with the accusers.

The rep would never bring up skeletons from the closet on a poster because he is down in the discussions.

I would never allow a humorous attitude towards any player who thought he was owed.

I would never allow the employee to hint that my book was the very best.

I would never alow my employee to tell the posters that their boss was the most standup guy in the business

I would most certainly have my rep be able to maintain a nice persona even in the face of adversity.

Bottom line is that this is a posting forum & if the rep cannot handle himself here then how the heck can he handle real adversity at the office?

Any additions?

Thanks guys. Judge, I appreciate that.

Why try and persuade that his book was very solid & upstanding in the business when the poster rep himself becomes very disliked and aggravating to many. That is about the second worse bad business decision a forum book can make besides pay issues. The books that are professional in here are way more likely to get more business than the ones who want to play tough guys and immaturely handle themselves here. The regular poster has little reason to fight fairly, but the books are putting their businesses reputation on the line.

It's just a matter of business for me. Being nice, polite, & professional is always the best medicine for business.

Good post General.

But one can be fairly level headed and still get baited into fights.

I think staying off the forums as a rule is best for most established books. At a minimum an "official" rep shouldn't get involved in anything but just answer questions about that book. Nothing else.

Great post General...

You nailed it buddy..

Bookmakers who do what you suggest are most likely more successful than those who come on here and act unprofessionally..

There's so much more involved than simply payouts...

Gamblers shouldn't even have to worry about bseing payed when they win, but unfortunately that's not always the case...

Gamblers want to feel appreciated and be treated with respect...

Often how a bookmakers conducts himself in these forums is a reflection of how they are like with customers when running their sports book...

General-
I pretty much agree with your post (and how well you said it) except for the following point.... The regular poster has little reason to fight fairly. I agree that the books need to be fair to maintain their rep, but so do regular posters.
The more often a poster speaks up, the more history he creates. The fairer he is in the postings, the more weight his word will carry when things get heated.
Ironically, just before I read your post, I was thinking about starting a thread called The Rules of Engagement.
I'd modify keeping the skeletons in the closet (whether poster is up or down) to contain the following exception:
If a poster makes a BIG claim (never lied, cheated or stole XYZ), a rebutter with knowledge should remind the first poster that a counter-example exists. If the first poster DARES rebutter to produce said example, then he has handed rebutter the key to the closet. IMHO.

Also, the other big rule should be keeping REAL names off the site. Use the handle, if if the name is common knowledge. If people wanted to use their real names, they'd make that their handle or put it in their profile. The DARE exception applies here if poster challenges someone to guess their name. (Rumplestitlskin (sp?) got his butt kicked in that story).

Thanks Java.

What i meant to relay was that posters come & go. Some just come to spill there agenda then run. They have no care. The book rep though has a business to worry over. They need to maintain the professionalism more so than most posters. Even as a regular poster, many do not care what is thought of them. They continue to use the same silly arrogant personas no matter.

Your feedback is appreciated. I could have said that a bit better & clearer.

Good point judge

One I would not want is the Pariaction Group. It is like calling your local garbage company.

I compare the cutomer service in the industry to a McDonalds employee..about the same, or atleast thats how it feels...Once you get down to the non management personel its real weak!

Heritage had the best clerks...and of course the English books have fine polite clerks...I don`t think people in the UK no how to be rude yet.
